luxury camping in a Greyhound Scenicrusier

The Scenicruiser was almost 11 feet tall and 40 feet long. The Greyhound Bus Company had to convince several states to change their laws on bus length so that the Scenicruiser could be operated in those states (most states had a 35-foot limit on bus length in the early Fifties).

  1. Greyhound Senicrusier. Raymond Lowey design. Lowey also designed the Studebaker Champion in the 1950's and the Avanti in 1963. He was also responsible for the red and yellow Shell logo and the red and white circle design for Lucky Strike cigarettes. Lowey was well known to JFK who commissioned him to do the graphics for Air Force One. Lowey was on the cover of Time magazine in 1949.

    2. When Google honored him with a Google Doodle I posted a small list of a few things he designed, and the Avanti, Sears Coldspot fridge, and the things you mentioned as well were in that list, but the trains, and so many other things are in the link above. http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2013/11/raymond-loewys-120th-birthday-is-google.html

  2. I thought I'd read everything you posted for the last several years, but I missed those. If I'd been aware you had already said something I probably would not have commented. It's interesting that we both mention on the same designs in almost the same words.

    1. well, there's only so many ways to list the things a person has accomplished. They are usually spelled the same, phrased the same, and include the same things in a list. It's just one of a dozen posts I've done about Loewy designs.
